- Standardization of Extended Reality (XR) over 5G and 5G-Advanced 3GPP New Radioel octubre 25, 2023 a las 1:17 pm
Extended Reality (XR) is one of the major innovations to be introduced in 5G/5G-Advanced communication systems. A combination of augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality, supplemented by cloud gaming, revisits the way that humans interact with computers, networks, and each other. However, efficient support of XR services imposes new challenges for existing and future wireless networks. This article presents a tutorial on integrating support for the XR into the 3GPP New Radio (NR), summarizing a range of activities handled within various 3GPP Service and Systems Aspects (SA) and Radio Access Networks (RAN) groups. The article also delivers a system level simulation study evaluating the performance of different XR services over NR Release 17. The article concludes with a vision of further enhancements to better support XR in NR Release 18 and future NR releases also outlining open problems in this area.
- Aerial-Ground Cooperative Vehicular Networks for Emergency Integrated Localization and Communicationel octubre 24, 2023 a las 1:18 pm
The destruction of terrestrial infrastructure following natural disasters poses a significant challenge for emergency rescue and recovery operations. In this article, we propose an innovative solution called the aerial-ground cooperative vehicular network (AGCVN) to address this issue. The AGCVN aims to provide a reliable, flexible, and resilient integrated localization and communication (ILAC) service in disaster scenarios by leveraging the cooperation among unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and terrestrial emergency vehicles (TEVs). However, the complex and resource-limited disaster environment makes it difficult to efficiently utilize resources for ILAC with low complexity. Toward this end, we first investigate the framework of the AGCVN, which includes the basic architecture, ILAC mechanism, related applications, and the challenges faced by AGCVN in utilizing ILAC. Additionally, considering integrated signal design, network topology optimization, and joint resource adaptation as case studies, we explore resource management schemes for emergency ILAC in AGCVN to achieve multi-level unification of dual functionalities. Finally, we present simulation results that demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed schemes.
- Opportunities and Implementation of Neural Machine Translation for Network Configurationel octubre 24, 2023 a las 1:18 pm
Network configuration translation is proposed to solve the problem of configuration migration and backup in the process of network configuration management, and how to automate configuration translation is an important issue in the development of autonomous driving network. It is of great scientific significance and application value to intellectualize network configuration management via artificial intelligence technology represented by machine learning. Recently, neural machine translation (NMT) technology has been widely used in natural languages and programming languages to integrate and translate heterogeneous languages, which provides new insights into using machine translation to tackle the problems in network operation and maintenance. In this article, we analyze the possibilities and challenges involved in the application of NMT in network configuration, propose a general framework of the network configuration NMT model, and report on experiments with an implementation of a configuration translation use case that takes an unsupervised approach. The design, construction and deployment of the model are explained in detail and the feasibility is validated experimentally. We also discuss the major challenges and potential research directions of NMT in network configuration.
